COLOR CLUB (LAB)
Film laboratory & workshop space
Color Club (Lab), formerly known as Labeirut, is an artist-run film laboratory and a workshop platform founded by Siska and dedicated to analogue film practices. It provides a space for experimentation, collective learning, and the exchange of practical knowledge around Super 8 and 16mm film. The lab explores the material and technical processes of analogue filmmaking, from camera handling and shooting to hand-processing, editing, and projection. Working independently from conventional film industry structures, Color Club approaches film as a form of handicraft: accessible, collaborative, and experimental.

FILM EXTRACTS FROM WORKSHOPS

Color Club Lab is an artist-run laboratory for processing analog film based in Künstlerhof Frohnau. Color Club Lab is a workshop module that explores analog film practices. Workshops on hand-processed film methods help participants focus not just on aesthetics and content but also on the technical, material, and economic aspects of the process. Participants learn how to handle cameras, develop reversal film stock, edit and project Super 8
and 16mm film by handling, hand-processing, editing and projecting. As part of Diaries of Light Two - Forest, the focus was on the forest and nature surrounding Künstlerhof Frohnau where the current Lab is. Using light to tell a story by exposing the gelatin emulsion on the film to a light source, which changes the crystals into visible images. Films were exposed during the day and processed at night during the workshop weekend.
Diaries of Light Two - Forest 12 min, 2 Channels Color & Black & White Super8 & 16mm, 2022 Berlin - Künstlerhof Frohnau, Kino Al-Amir Draussenstadt 2021-2022 - Color Club Lab with Ayman Nahle, Karam Ghossein, Jasmina Metwaly, Panos Aprahamian & Zuhour Mahmoud, Franziska Pierwoss, Clementine Butler-Gallie, Louis Henderson, Mariam Mekiwi and Siska.

The Archeology beyond Moving Image
In this workshop, film and image making are understood as an artistic research tool for examining historical, social, and psychological layers. The archive is not seen as a static storage space, but as a dynamic and conflictual process shaped by power relations, omissions, and acts of erasure. Together we will explore questions of visibility and disappearance within visual culture. To this end, we will deconstruct and reconstruct digital, analog, found, and speculative materials. The resulting works will move between video, installation, and spatial practice, transforming the working and exhibiting space into an active research environment. From image making practice to its analog development in the filmlab, we will shoot on 16mm color film and process the films together. From the birth to the death of an image, or vice versa. This approach understands moving images as both method and metaphor of excavation, enabling a critical engagement with layers of personal and collective history.
