A TRAGIC TALE OF FIRE WATER AND RADON

Super 8 transferred to HD, 5'03 min, 2015

Premiered in 2014 as an installation: The film material was projected in its original form as a colour negative image - via a Super 8 projector from a hotel in Badgastein. Projected over a period of days, dust accumulated, scratches appeared and the image gradually cancelled itself out. Only then was the film digitised. The traces of wear and tear became part of the material - as a visual reflection on latency, decay and ruin. The film was shot in the empty congress centre in Bad Gastein, a brutalist building with a red interior from the 1960s, designed by Gerhard Garstenauer. The architect, one of the few representatives of Alpine modernism, deliberately

contrasted his building with the belle époque architecture of the spa town, whose history as a retreat for aristocracy and politics in the 18th and 19th centuries is still very much alive. The film frames these traces  between thermal steam, decay and jet-set fantasies like a trailer for a thriller. Shot on Super 8 and colour negative film, the material oscillates between contemporary testimony and speculative fiction.

“Der Beiruter Siska hat zusammen mit Franziska Pierwoss in Bad Gastein gedreht. In hat die "Geschichte der Hotels des Ortes interessiert, als der noch eine Jetset-City war".”
